How to spot a Mimic egg before it bites

Mimic eggs in Mimic Egg Heist look like every other egg until they open their eyes. Where they show up, how to spot one, and what happens if you grab it.

Mimics are the twist in Mimic Egg Heist. They sit in the nests looking exactly like every other egg, and they are waiting for you to pick them up.

Where Mimics show up

The Forest, the first area, has none. From the Lake onwards, any nest can hide a Mimic, and the further out you go, the more of them there are.

That makes the Forest the safe place to learn the game, and every area after it a place where you look before you grab.

How to spot one

Every egg in a nest looks the same, so you cannot pick out a Mimic by its colour or its shape. There is exactly one tell: a Mimic opens its eyes.

Every few seconds it opens them for a split second and shuts them again. Real eggs never do that.

So the trick is patience:

  1. Stop a short distance from the nest, out of the guardian's way.
  2. Watch the eggs for a few seconds. A Mimic opens its eyes every two to five seconds or so.
  3. Remember which egg blinked, and grab a different one.

If you are in a hurry and grab without looking, you are gambling, and the odds get worse the further out you are.

What happens when one bites

Grab a Mimic and it bites. You get knocked back and slowed for a moment, and your streak resets to zero.

The bite gets stronger the further out you are, and a Mimic that was pretending to be a rarer egg throws you harder too.

Why it is worth the risk

Further areas have more Mimics, but they also have more valuable animals. Learning to spot a Mimic is what lets you farm the far areas without losing your streak every other run.

The Mimic Queen

Every Mimic has a mother. The Mimic Queen sleeps on an island past the Rainbow, curled around the Queen's Egg, and she does not just bite. Our Queen's Egg guide explains how to steal from her.
